LSU Football Rooting Guide for Week Two of the College Football Season
The LSU Football team lost last weekend falling to 18th in the AP Poll and 19th in the LBM Coaches poll. LSU will start it's climb back toward playoff contention against Nicholls State tonight kicking off the 100th season of Tiger Stadium. LSU will be looking to pick up some help along the way as a few upsets can push LSU closer to the top 12 and playoff contention. As of right now, we're rooting for LSU and USC for the rest of the season as the Trojans winning makes LSU's loss even better. Here are the other games to watch that could push LSU up the rankings.
#3 Texas at #10 Michigan
No matter what the result is, a team LSU is competing against for a College Football Playoff bid will take a loss this weekend. Here, the Tigers will be pulling for their new SEC rival as the SEC looking as strong as possible is massive for making the case for the Playoff. We should see Texas go on the road and get a massive road win especially with Michigan's uncertainty at the quarterback position. Either result is a positive for the LSU football team as the Tigers will draw even in the loss column with the loser.
Baylor at #11 Utah
The Big 12 has to be a one bid conference when the Playoff rolls around to maximize the amount of at-large teams that can get into the playoff from the SEC. Utah is everyone's darling pick to win the Big 12 but, getting a loss on their record early would be massive for minimizing the playoff teams in the Big 12. LSU fans will be rooting on Dave Aranda as he looks to pull of the upset on the road. This game doesn't count as a Conference game in the Big 12 but, it'll hand a Big 12 team a loss.
South Carolina at Kentucky
Neither of these teams are ranked but, a win in this matchup could go a long way toward getting one of these teams into the Top 25. Here LSU fans should be rooting for South Carolina as LSU faces the Gamecocks next week. South Carolina will have a hard time cracking the Top 25 but, beating a 2-0 South Carolina is much better than beating a 1-1 South Carolina.
#14 Tennessee Vs #24 NC State (Neutral Site)
The Volunteers will travel to take on the NC State Wolfpack in North Carolina but, this is a neutral site game. The LSU Football team won't get its crack at Tennessee this season and while we like to root for the conference, here LSU should root for the Wolfpack. Last week, the Wolfpack struggled with the Western Carolina Catamounts and beating Tennessee may be a stretch. If NC State pulls off this game, they'll still have chances to lose against Clemson, Georgia Tech, UNC, and Duke while the ACC feels like a conference of chaos.
App State at #24 Clemson
The Clemson Tigers and their fanbase may think that they're coming home for a get right game but, that's not exactly the case. Last week we saw the Florida State Seminoles go home just to lose to Boston College, and this week it could be Clemson who suffers the same fate.
The Clemson offense wasn't exactly inspiring against Georgia last week and at this point, it's hard to feel confident in Clemson. It's very possible we leave this game thinking that Joey Aguilar was the better quarterback in this game and that Dabo Swinney's Clemson program clearly has issues that need serious fixing.
Boise State at #7 Oregon
If not for the performances shown by these teams last week, this game likely wouldn't have made the cut. Last week Oregon found itself in a late game rock fight with Idaho as the team was clearly still working through some issues. Boise State scored 56 points against Georgia Southern winning by eleven. If the Heisman was given out after week one Ashton Jeanty likely would've won the award rushing for 267 yards and six touchdowns. Oregon better hope its offense shows up and converts today other wise they may be on upset alert.
