The Weather may play a massive role in LSU Football's game against South Carolina
This weekend's matchup against the South Carolina Gamecocks has become a much harder game than anyone imagined in the preseason. The Gamecocks are off to a 2-0 start beating Old Dominion and dominating Kentucky in Lexington. The most impressive part of this South Carolina team has been their defense led by a ferocious front. Through two games South Carolina's offensive gameplan is clear, they're going to run the ball early and often.
A team that is going to run the football as often as South Carolina has at 70.5% of their plays, gives a defense a unique challenge.
The South Carolina Gamecocks may also get an incredible boost from the weather as it's expected to rain on Saturday morning while there may also be thunderstorms as well. A heavy dosage of rain and wind would be bad for the LSU Football team as they haven't been able to run the football and rely heavily on the pass.
The Tigers also don't want to get into a war stopping the run a week after losing Jacobian Guillory for the season as LSU will now test out some inexperienced defensive linemen. The Tigers are however preparing for the Gamecocks rushing attack as the Tigers will run more of a traditional 4-3 defense which will get Harold Perkins, Whit Weeks, and Greg Penn all onto the field together.
Thunderstorms may provide an interesting wrinkle if this game goes into delay as the Tigers would have to spend the break in the much smaller visitors locker room.
LSU has to stop South Carolina on early downs
If LSU is going to win this game rain or shine, they'll have to get South Carolina into second or third and long situations. LSU getting South Carolina into obvious passing situations would be incredible as LaNorris Sellers has struggled at times with throwing the Football. If this game does turn into a battle between rushing attacks, the linebackers have to blow plays up rather than getting caught up in the mix like they did at times against Nicholls State.
