The LSU Football team heads into the season with a ton of first time starters and a ton of returning starters. The biggest positive for LSU heading into the season as this group is easily the group with the most depth in Brian Kelly's time in Baton Rouge. While the focus is on the 2024 season, the LSU Football team is best positioned for the future at these three positions.

Quarterback

This season will be Garrett Nussmeier's first season as a full-time starter and everyone is confident in his ability to take over this offense. There are some massive positives with Nussmeier as he's gotten a ton of reps when Jayden Daniels has suffered injuries or in games where LSU has taken massive leads. The Redshirt Junior has spent three seasons learning the system and what it takes to be a college quarterback and this year should be a monster season for Nussmeier.

Behind Nussmeier, the LSU Football team has a ton of talent at the position for the future. Rickie Collins will compete for the backup job after completing two passes for three yards last season. Collins has serious dual-threat ability and he could even be a piece LSU uses creatively sooner rather than later. AJ Swann transfers in from Vanderbilt and he brings starting experience having played the past two seasons. True freshman Colin Hurley was a highly recruited player having classified so he's one year younger than most freshmen, he'll have the chance to raise his stock throughout the year.

Finally, LSU has a solid commitment from the Nation's top quarterback recruit who's also the Nation's highest-ranked player Bryce Underwood. In Underwood, LSU is getting an incredible quarterback as he boasts a career TD/INT ratio of 120/7. From the moment Bryce Underwood steps onto campus, the fanbase will be clamoring to see Underwood.

Running Back

With Jayden Daniels under center, he was always the Tigers' top rushing threat which should no longer be the case going forward. Josh Williams and John Emery Jr are the veterans in the room with Williams getting the starting nod. Second-year players Kaleb Jackson and Trey Holly have both shown a ton of potential and if Holly is reinstated they'll both play key roles this season. True Freshman Caden Durham has the ability to be a true big play back from the start of the season as one of the most exciting freshmen on the team.

On the recruiting trail, the LSU Football team has landed two of the Nation's best running backs both coming from the State of Louisiana. Harlem Berry is the Nation's top running back recruit and in addition to his ability to carry the ball he's become an incredible receiver playing 7 on 7 alongside Bryce Underwood. JT Lindsey is an in-state star that LSU identified early as he's flown up recruiting boards since committing to LSU.

Safety

In the past few seasons LSU's defense has slipped however, there are plenty of reasons to be excited about the safety room. This season, Jardin Gilbert, Jordan Allen, Major Burns, and Sage Ryan will likely dominate the playing time at the position. The Tigers will then enter the next season with Jordan Allen boasting starting experience while LSU will have younger players with a ton of talent ready to fill the void. DaShawn Spears is already pushing for time as a true freshman, as is Joel Rogers. The Tigers also have Kylin Jackson pushing for time at the STAR position as he continues to look like an elite player.

On the recruiting trail, the LSU Football team currently holds commitments from two safeties and they may not be done at the position. Jhase Thomas and CJ Jimcoily are both committed to LSU and will be pieces the staff looks to develop. LSU will then make a push for two of the Nation's top safeties in Jonah Williams who could start at the STAR position or linebacker as a freshman and Bryce Fitzgerald one of the most highly recruited players in the country.
