Top Transfer Target set to announce commitment and more LSU Football recruiting news
The LSU Football program is hot on the recruiting trail as they pursue both high school recruits and some of the top transfers still available. The past week has seen LSU host both official and unofficial visits with plenty of good news coming for LSU. Here are the biggest news stories to follow for the week to come.
Transfer Defensive Tackle Jay'Viar Suggs concludes visit and sets his commitment date
The LSU Football team is still in pursuit of transfer defensive tackles with Jay'Viar Suggs currently as the top priority. The Grand Valley State transfer concluded his visit to Baton Rouge and officially set his commitment date. Suggs will announce his commitment Wednesday Night and LSU appears to be in a really good spot. Landing Suggs would give the team a solid defensive tackle option and if Bo Davis can develop him this Summer it's easy to believe that this defense will take a massive jump.
Top 2026 Defensive Tackle Recruit Jakeem Stewart considering reclassifying
The LSU Tigers may possibly land yet another five-star recruit to their loaded 2025 recruiting class but, this one is a little complicated. Jakeem Stewart the top recruit in Louisiana and the second-ranked recruit overall is considering reclassifying into the class of 2025. The Tigers are in a great place as Stewart has only one visit planned thus far for the Summer and it's to LSU. Stewart has visited Baton Rouge over ten times and his bond with new defensive line coach Bo Davis may be the factor that helps LSU land him.
LSU extends an offer to a 2026 quarterback
Last week we mentioned how LSU is in pursuit of three quarterbacks from the 2026 recruiting class. The Tigers have extended an offer to a fourth quarterback in 2026 recruit Brady Hart. Hart is ranked as the eighth-ranked quarterback in the class and the 101st prospect overall. Notre Dame and the instate Florida schools will be tough to beat out but, with Joe Sloan and Brian Kelly's track record will make LSU a contender for Hart.
LSU among top four for edge rusher Damien Shanklin
According to On3's Steve Wiltfong, the LSU Tigers are one of the four schools in play for 2025 edge rusher Damien Shanklin. The four-star edge rusher is ranked as the 86th overall player in the class and the 13th-ranked edge rusher. LSU is in a good spot with Shanklin hosting him on a visit later this month after hosting him among a star-studded cast at the Spring Game. While LSU has a loaded recruiting class, they currently hold no commitments from edge rushers.
LSU Tigers in play for pair of stepbrother transfers
While the team's top priority has been pursuing defensive tackles in the transfer portal, some other defensive reinforcements may be on the way. The team is pursuing former Tennessee safety Wesley Walker and his stepbrother edge rusher Tyler Baron. The pair are currently transferring from Louisville and could bring some much-needed help to the defense. Baron recorded 16 solo tackles, six sacks, and a forced fumble for Tennessee in 2023. Walker recorded 53 total tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.
In-state running back and top LSU target sets Commitment date
The LSU Football program always does an incredible job at keeping the top talents in the state of Louisiana. The LSU Football program has seven of the top ten recruits in the state committed to the program and they may get an eighth in a few weeks. Running back James Simon has announced that he'll commit at the On3 Elite Series on May 29th.
Simon is ranked as the 150th-ranked player in the country, the ninth-ranked running back, and the fourth-ranked player in the state. At one point in time, it looked like LSU was a lock to land Simon but, after landing JT Lindsey it seems some other schools have caught up. It appears that Texas has jumped LSU for Simon but, LSU may have a chance up until National Signing Day.
