Things are about to get interesting for LSU football. With the Tigers moving on from Brian Kelly AND athletic director Scott Woodward, there was already a ton of pressure on the university to bring in a suitable replacement. However, another SEC job is open with Huge Freeze being let go by Auburn.
LSU vs Alabama betting line already shifting ahead of Tuscaloosa showdown
Does this complicate things for LSU? It's hard to say, but another big-boy job is open and Auburn is going to want to bring in the best candidate possible. That's why LSU needs to act fast and prevent a top target from either going to Florida or Auburn. In this piece we have our rankings for who should be the main priority in terms of getting an offer. Jon Sumrall remains No. 1 on our list, but there are other names to keep an eye on.
1. Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall
Sumrall is a name that continues to get floated around and for good reason. He's over in New Orleans with Tulane and he has the Green Wave making plenty of noise this season. Despite the loss to UTSA, Tulane is still 6-2 on the year and Sumrall has caught the eye of multiple programs.
With him already having experience recruiting Louisiana and being a coach on the rise, it's easy to see why he's considered a top candidate. Imagine what he could do with the resources of an SEC school like LSU. It won't be long before he says goodbye to Tulane, but will it be to make a move to Baton Rouge?
2. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin
Second on our list is Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin, though he's the No. 1 option for a lot of people out there. Kiffin is going to have his choice of where he wants to go, but the big question remains: is he going to want to leave his situation with the Rebels?
Kiffin has done a fantastic job leading Ole Miss and he's beloved all over Oxford. There's buzz that he could be eyeing Florida, as he grew up idolizing Steve Spurrier, a Florida legend. Kiffin could just say no thanks to all the schools interested in him, but LSU would be wise to get in touch with him sooner rather than later.
3. Buffalo Bills OC Joe Brady
This feels like a bit of a dream, but could you imagine the excitement among the LSU faithful if Joe Brady makes a return to campus? No one will forget his days as the pass-game coordinator for the 2019 National Championship-winning team.
Yup, 15-0 never felt so great. Right now, Brady has a Super Bowl on his mind, as he's the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills. The expectation is that he's likely going to wait for an NFL head coaching gig. Could LSU sell him running the show for the Tigers instead? Who knows.
4. Georgia Tech HC Brent Key
This is a name that's starting to create more buzz. Brent Key has been doing some pretty dang incredible things for Georgia Tech, as the Yellow Jackets are 8-1 on the year and they're ranked the No. 16 team in the country.
Could GT actually push for a trip to the College Football Playoff? That's what a lot of people think could happen and Key would be considered a legend if that goes down. He may not be the sexiest option for LSU, but he's a winner and someone worth an interview at minimum.
