Rex Ryan and Josh Pate eviscerate Brian Kelly after ugly LSU firing

Rex Ryan and Josh Pate certainly didn't hold back on their thoughts about Brian Kelly being fired from LSU.

LSU finally made the move to fire head coach Brian Kelly after an embarrassing home loss to No. 3 Texas A&M on Saturday night. That loss brought the Tigers' record to 5-3, almost certainly knocking them out of the running for the College Football Playoff.

The move to fire Kelly was one that fans had been calling for as the head coach made many promises and continued to underperform year after year. With Kelly's firing coming late Sunday night, the morning sports talk shows had lots to say about Kelly and his time at LSU, including "Get Up" talking heads Josh Pate and Rex Ryan.

Pate has never been the biggest fan of Kelly's, and this was his perfect moment to let LSU know that they made the right decision. Pate believed that when it came to things at LSU, Kelly's mind was more on a beach in Florida than in the building on LSU's campus.

"When it comes to the critical infrastructure of a college football program," Pate said, " recruiting, portaling, talent acquisition, staffing decisions, a lot of that Brian Kelly was on a beach in Florida for."

LSU is a program that is destined to be one of the top programs year in and year out with the type of money it has to compete for top talent in the country, and the history of success. Kelly had everything he could have ever needed, and he just didn't seem to care or give it everything he had, according to Pate.

Rex Ryan believes Brian Kelly was the worst hire in college football history

Rex Ryan is one that has seen his fair share of different football organizations and even coached a couple of really rough ones. He knows a bad program when he sees it, and he believes that under Kelly, LSU was never going to go anywhere, and he knew this from the very beginning.

"The very first time we saw Brian Kelly speak publicly was at that basketball game when he brought in β€” I mean, historically bad,” Ryan said. β€œTo me, I thought he was done from that point."

Ryan was not shy, either, sharing his thoughts on Kelly and his time at LSU. Ryan even believes that the Tigers' hiring Kelly was the worst hire in history and felt like it just never did or was going to fit in in Baton Rouge.

When Kelly went to Louisiana from Notre Dame, he tried to make himself fit in and be someone he wasn't, and Ryan felt he should have just been who he always was, and maybe he would have had better luck.

To be called one of the worst hires in history is pretty brutal, but there may not be many people who are going to disagree with that right now. LSU will now be paying a hefty buyout of $54 million, and is now on the hunt, along with other big programs like Penn State and Florida, for a new head coach.
