When he will play:

Franks has shown mental maturity, which should help him as he sits on the sideline for at least a season. It is not often that quarterbacks come into the SEC and make an impact immediately, so he will likely need some time to get adjusted to the college game.

In 2016, the quarterback position will be a little crowded on the depth chart for LSU. Quarterbacks Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris will be a senior and junior, respectively. Depending upon the outcome of Jennings’ legal troubles and the quarterback battle between the two this season, one should have the leg up as the starting quarterback for the 2016 season.

True freshman Justin McMillan impressed coaches in the Spring, but unless he makes great strides between now and 2016 season, he looks to be, at best, third on the quarterback depth chart.

LSU also has Purdue transfer Danny Etling on the roster. Etling started 12 games over two seasons for the Boilermakers. Due to NCAA transfer rules, Etling will have to sit out the 2015 season, but will be eligible to suit up for the Tigers as a junior in 2016. Fans can expect Etling to compete with Jennings and Harris for the starting quarterback position.

Through two seasons at Purdue, Etling was more productive than Jennings and Harris have been so far in their careers, albeit he was facing lesser competition. If the 2015 season is anything like it was last year for LSU quarterbacks, Miles will be scrambling to find an answer at the position in 2016.

With the cluster at the quarterback position, do not be surprised if Franks redshirts during his first season with the Tigers. As a freshman quarterback, he will still have a lot of growing pains. Learning the playbook, playing against college athletes and competing in the hostile road environments of the SEC will take some time to get adjusted to.
