While program's like LSU will look to add instant impact players in the transfer portal, some times the best additions end up being the players that can impact a program for multiple years down the line if they can develop in the program. Mekhi Wingo, Jayden Daniels, Kyren Lacy, and Miles Frazier are all great examples of players who spent multiple years at LSU developing into key pieces for the Tigers.
The latest player to enter the Transfer Portal fitting that mold for LSU is Missouri Edge Rusher Jaylen Brown.
We mentioned that Williams Nwaneri could be a potential candidate to watch for LSU because of his ties to Kevin Peoples and Blake Baker who recruited him to Missouri but, Nwaneri entered the transfer portal with a Non-Contact Tag meaning his recruitment is already decided. Nwaneri appears headed to Nebraska where his High School Coach is currently on the staff.
Given that Blake Baker and Kevin People also recruited edge rusher Jaylen Brown to Missouri, this seems like another potential for LSU. We're already seeing LSU's defensive staff using its previous connections as Corey Raymond goes after cornerback Ja'Keem Jackson who he recruited to Florida.
Jaylen Brown was a four-star recruit in the 2024 Recruiting Cycle ranked as the 216th best player in the class, the 24th ranked edge rusher, and the 14th ranked player in Alabama. This season, Brown didn't play much recording just two tackles on the season.
Given that Kevin Peoples is one of the best at developing edge rushers in the Country the match makes perfect sense. LSU lost three of its top edge rushers this offseason with Bradyn Swinson and Sai'Vion Jones off to the NFL while Da'Shawn Womack transferred to Ole Miss. Giving Kevin Peoples another piece that he can develop in this system would be a great move at one of LSU's positions of need.
