The college football coaching carousel has reached new heights in 2025. The last few months have yielded enhanced drama across the country, with LSU dominating headlines in their firing of Brian Kelly on October 26 and hiring of Lane Kiffin this past weekend.

Orgeron has been eyeing a return to coaching college football for several months now. Over the summer he expressed his desire to coach again on the Pardon My Take podcast, and said he would be open to an assistant coaching position if the right situation presented itself.
Last month, Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reported that LSU would potentially welcome Orgeron back to Baton Rouge as a part of Kiffin's coaching staff. Kiffin and Orgeron have a strong relationship that goes back several years, and the pair would make for quite the duo on the sidelines at Tiger Stadium.
But Orgeron is still pursuing head coaching opportunities as well. He expressed interest in the Oregon State job last month, but that opening went to Alabama co-offensive coordinator JaMarcus Shephard last week. Now, Orgeron is vying for the Tulane job.
Orgeron is obviously familiar with the recruiting landscape of New Orleans and Louisiana as a whole, which could give him an advantage in Tulane's coaching search. He recruited the area heavily during his time at SEC schools Ole Miss, Tennessee, and LSU. It's also worth mentioning that Orgeron has family ties to Tulane, as his eldest son Tyler has been an offensive analyst and tight ends coach at Tulane as a part of Jon Sumrall's staff the past two seasons.
Mackel reports that Tulane is expected to make a decision sometime this week.
