When Brian Kelly was fired back on October 26, associate head coach and running backs coach Frank Wilson took over the LSU Football program on an interim basis. He's led the Tigers to a 2-2 record and is preparing his team to face the Houston Cougars in the Texas Bowl on December 27.

But Wilson's future beyond that remains in question. Wilson said last week that he hasn't been given any clarity regarding his future at LSU from Lane Kiffin. It's been reported that further talks between Kiffin and Wilson are expected to come after the Texas Bowl.
Another SEC team was in pursuit of Wilson's services, but the latest development gives LSU fans hope that Kiffin will bring him back.
Texas hires Jabbar Juluke, Wilson's future at LSU still unknown
Last week, it was reported by On3 that Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian was eyeing Wilson to be his running backs coach in Austin after Chad Scott was fired after just one season. However, Sarkisian has now hired former Florida running backs coach Jabbar Juluke. The move gives LSU fans hope that Kiffin will decide to retain Wilson on his 2026 coaching staff.

Losing Wilson to Texas would have been a tough blow to LSU. Wilson is among the best recruiters in college football, and losing him to an SEC foe would sting.
Now in his second stint with the Tigers, Wilson has earned several accolades for his recruiting efforts at LSU. Most notably, he was recognized as the nation's Recruiter of the Year by Rivals.com in 2011, the Top Recruiter in College Football by NFL.com in 2014, and the SEC Recruiter of the Year by Scout.com in 2015. He was also acknowledged as the top assistant coach in the country in 2011.
Retaining Wilson seems like an advantageous move for Kiffin. Wilson has recruited the state of Louisiana for his entire professional career, and he has been engrained in Louisiana football his entire life. He has built relationships with high school coaches and players all throughout the state, and has played a vital role in bringing the top players in the state to LSU. Some notable names Wilson has recruited to Baton Rouge include Leonard Fournette, Tyrann Mathieu, La'el Collins, Jarvis Landry, and Odell Beckham Jr.
Now that Texas has found its running backs coach, perhaps that opens the door for Wilson to remain as LSU's running backs coach under Kiffin.
