It was a hectic weekend for LSU football and things are already off to a rocky start on Monday. While a ton of the focus has been on the school letting Brian Kelly go, he's not the only one who's now out of a job moving forward. Yup, another big change has arrived.
Brian Kelly had a passionate 5-word message for his players after he was fired
On Monday morning, the breaking news came in that LSU has also decided to part ways with offensive coordinator Joe Sloan. On Sunday, there were rumblings that Kelly was going to fire Kelly himself, but the veteran head coach was canned instead. However, Sloan was clearly a problem for the Tigers and he's now no longer with the program:

LSU has fired OC Joe Sloan 1 day after letting Brian Kelly go
With Sloan no longer in charge of running the LSU offense, Alex Atkins will be taking over the unit for the rest of the campaign according to Shea Dixon of On3. With only four games left in the season, Atkins indeed is taking over as the play-caller and the hope is he'll be able to mix things up.
The LSU offense simply wasn't pulling its weight this year, which felt like a huge surprise. Fans had grown tired of Sloan and unfortunately one of the final memories people will have of him was Kelly ripping him late in the first half in the loss to Texas A&M. Here's a reminder for you.

I’ll let lip readers do the job, but from what I can tell:
“What are you doing Joe? You can’t throw that with no timeouts.” pic.twitter.com/ydNAEWefeL
Yeah, that wasn't a good look for either coach and the video went viral over the weekend. If anything, it showcased that Kelly and Sloan were far from on the same page in 2025, which is incredibly frustrating. What went wrong?
On Sunday before Kelly was fired, the assumption was that BK was going to fire Sloan himself in an attempt to try and save his job. Apparently Kelly wanted to make other moves that LSU AD Scott Woodward didn't agree with, which ultimately led to Kelly being shown the door. Sloan is also on his way out and he may not be the last coach to get some rough news from LSU.
