A huge SEC matchup is set for this weekend as the LSU Tigers take on their rival Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday afternoon. It's a clash between two undefeated teams looking to make a statement not only in the conference, but across the country.

LSU vs Ole Miss series history

Taking a peek back at the series history, LSU holds the all-time edge with a 66-43-4 record over Ole Miss, including last season’s 29-26 overtime victory in Baton Rouge.

The Rebels, fresh off a blowout win over Tulane, will be eager to take down another Louisiana team in back-to-back weeks -- though a looming decision at quarterback between Trinidad Chambliss and Austin Simmons adds intrigue to the matchup.

Simmons, still working his way back from a lower-body injury, is battling to get to full strength ahead of this matchup with the Tigers. If he can’t go, Ole Miss should still feel confident in Chambliss, who’s delivered two impressive starts in recent weeks. With that said, neither quarterback has faced a defense quite like LSU’s this season.

The Tiger defense has taken a big step forward from last season, holding each of their first four opponents to 10 points or fewer and ranking ninth nationally in points allowed entering Week 5. It’s shaping up to be a tough test for the Rebels.

LSU offense needs to click

On the other side of the ball, Garrett Nussmeier and the Tiger offense have yet to find their rhythm against a quality opponent. They took care of business against Southeastern Louisiana with a 56-point effort last week, but averaging just 20 points per game through their first three games won’t be enough to keep pace with high-powered SEC offenses down the stretch. Hitting their stride against Ole Miss would be a crucial step toward building the momentum needed for a legitimate National Championship run.

Tune in for a battle of unbeatens with plenty on the line as LSU and Ole Miss square off Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT. Oddsmakers are expecting a close game, and given the tightly-contested matchups in recent years, college football fans could be in for a treat on Saturday afternoon.
