Recruiting the safety position should become clear in the month ahead for LSU
The LSU Tigers are nearing another break from recruiting as there will be another dead period spanning the entire month of August. The LSU Football team has had a few positions of emphasis one of which is the safety position. The Tigers currently hold one commitment at Safety from Destrehan star Jhase Thomas who committed earlier this month.
The Tigers could see plenty of turnover after this season at the safety position as Major Burns, Jardin Gilbert, Sage Ryan, and Jordan Allen will all be elligible to enter the NFL Draft. Once you take into account potential transfers you can expect the LSU Football team may lose three or more players at the position.
As the Tigers already have one safety on board in Jhase Thomas, safeties coach Jake Olsen will begin to nail down this room on the recruiting trail in August.
The process of filling out the room can start with Anquon Fegans who was in town for Bayou Splash this weekend. Fegans also visited Alabama and Auburn who is the favorite for Fegans when he announces his decision Monday afternoon. Fegans is the 57th ranked player in the class and the fifth ranked safety and if LSU is the choice it would give LSU another top-100 recruit.
If LSU misses out on Fegans a recruit that will likely get a solid look is Louisiana Native Jacob Bradford. Jacob and his brother Blaine are both highly ranked recruits with Blaine being one of the top recruits in the 2026 recruiting cycle. Jacob is committed to Houston but, he'll be on campus Monday and look out if LSU offers him.
The coaching staff is also waiting on a decision from safety CJ Jimcoily who said he was planning on announcing his commitment in July. The Tigers are one of two finalists alongside Stanford and this recruitment feels like a real toss up. Jimcoily is ranked as the 36th ranked safety in the class and the 387th ranked player in this class.
The player that the staff would love a commitment from the most is Texas Native Jonah Williams. The two sport standout will announce his commitment on August 24th and LSU will definitely have a hat on the table for it. Williams was expected in Baton Rouge for Bayou Splash but, he had to reschedule his visit. The Tigers picked up a crystal ball prediction for Williams but, Texas, Texas A&M, and Oregon will all be tough outs in this recruitment.
August will determine where LSU's class finishes
When you look at LSU's recruiting class its currently ranked third but, where this class ends up will be decided in August. Three of LSU's top targets Jonah Williams, Kaliq Lockett, and Jaime Ffrench will all commit in August and it feels like LSU's is right in the race for all three five stars. You'll also want to keep an eye on some of the recruits committed elsewhere as LSU is looking at flipping some top defensive talents as well as Louisiana Native Phillip Wright.
